Troubleshooting. Paper Delivery Problems 4

Bypass Paper Skew

  • The quality of paper feed from the bypass tray (rate of skew and other problems) is beyond the scope of quality assurance.
  • If skew caused by the type of paper in use cannot be avoided, then feed the paper from the main unit paper tray.

Problem

The image is not parallel with the edges of the paper.

Precautions for Using Bypass Feed

If the bypass tray is not set correctly, the print area will be misaligned with the leading edge of the paper and the machine will jam without feeding the paper.

Here are some points to keep in mind when setting the paper:

  • Select the correct paper size on the machine operation panel and in the printer driver. If these settings are different, this can lead to paper jams and cause poor quality printing.
  • When feeding a custom paper size (non-standard size), select the correct LEF and SEF settings (paper height and width) on the machine operation panel and in the printer driver software.
  • When printing on non-standard size paper, if you select bypass printing on the operation panel (Paper Settings > Bypass Tray Priority), then you do not need to do the paper type and size settings on the operation panel.
  • You must set the paper in the bypass tray when the operation panel displays: “Loading Paper into Bypass Tray”.
  • After setting the paper tray completely against the back, the machine will automatically feed the paper about 12 mm.
  • Always set the paper for short-edge feed (SEF) with the print side down.
  • Paper cannot be fed from the bypass tray for duplex printing.
  • Before loading curled paper, try to correct the problem by bending the paper once against the direction of the curl.
  • Paper registration cannot be done for the bypass tray while the machine is initializing or during a print job.
  • When using letterhead paper, or with paper that needs special positioning for the print area, use a machine paper tray.
  • While paper is loaded in the bypass tray, Tray 1 and extended paper Tray 2 cannot be used.
  • Printing cannot be done with no paper tray set in the machine.
  • Never open and close the top cover or front cover while paper is loaded in the bypass tray. Opening and closing a cover will cause a paper jam.
  • Paper cannot be set in the bypass tray while the machine is in the Energy Save mode. Press any key on the operation panel to release the machine from the Energy Save mode, and then load paper in the bypass tray.
